Aldershot fans launch book written by and for club supporters

The Aldershot Town Supporters Trust (Shots Trust) today announces the launch of a unique book, Aldershot ’Til I Die, written by and for the fans. The book is part of an innovative national sports and literacy project, coordinated by the National Literacy Trust and Supporters Direct, in which fans have the chance to write about their experiences as passionate football fans. Aldershot ’Til I Die will launch at the Shots match against Darlington on Saturday 6th September 2008.

Following the Shots has become a way of life for many of its supporters. Aldershot ’Til I Die charts the moments of elation and of despair fans have experienced through a compilation of supporter stories. The book reveals the funny, the absurd, the peculiar and unbelievable that is part and parcel of following Aldershot. The stories are from supporters both young and old, from eight to 96, who attended a series of workshops to write their story.

In total, 1,500 copies of Aldershot ’Til I Die will be produced, of which 600 will be given to schoolchildren across local primary and secondary schools by Rushmoor Borough Council. Remaining books will be sold for £10 and available at the launch, through the club and online, with proceeds contributing to reading materials for Park Primary and Newport Junior schools.
