What is a supporters trust?
With the club not in financial difficulty and a long established Supporters Club in place why is a supporters' trust required at Aldershot Town?

Will the Shots Trust only represent its members?
The basic definition of a Trust is a democratic, not-for-profit organisation of supporters, committed to strengthening the voice for supporters in the decision making process at a club, and strengthening the links between the club and the community it serves. A Supporters Trust is an Industrial and Provident Society (IPA) governed by the Financial Services Authority and overseen by Government backed Supporters Direct.
Due to the fact that Trusts are a corporate body, the full force of the law can be brought to bear on anyone who misappropriates the funds. It's also democratic and not-for-profit and states clearly and boldly that a key aim is the securing of representation and strengthening the links between club and community. This corporate foundation and accountability means other bodies like councils, other businesses and football clubs have more confidence in a Trust than other supporters groups that don't. It is this same base that an IPA provides that means supporters' Trusts are eligible for funding and grants that are not available to other supporters groups. Most clubs that form a Trust aren't in financial difficulty. Trusts are often formed to provide fan representation to the club and forge links between the club and local community.
What
will members
get from joining the Shots Trust?
Joining the Shots Trust is for the supporter who wants to do a little extra to see the club develop further both on and off the pitch. By joining you will be able to help the Shots Trust develop our club to the benefit of all supporters. As a member you will receive a bi-monthly newsletter with all the Trust and club news. How
will the Shots
Trust help the club?
By forging links into the community the Trust will raise the profile of the football club in a positive way. This can only be good thing for the club in terms of support from the local population and local bodies like Rushmoor Borough Council. The Shots Trust will raise funds for projects that will help the club, its supporters and the community it serves.
