The Shots Trust are delighted to announce the appointments of Ian Barnett as Chairman and Stuart Griffiths as Vice-Chairman. Ian and Stuart will take over the previous roles allocated by Ian Goodwright and the most recent departure John Orme.
These appointments complete the current allocation of roles with Ian Goodwright staying on the board as a director, taking on the role of Membership. Sefton Owens will continue his responsibility for the website as well as helping to develop the Forever Shots fund. Janet Guess will carry on as the Trust Secretary. Peter O’Donnell will continue with his task of developing the Forever Shots Fund and Bob Green will persist as Club / Trust Liaison.
Tommy Anderson will remain as a Director, continuing in his Media/Spokesperson role as well taking on a new responsibility of issuing regular newsletters to Trust members.
We are also pleased to welcome two new faces onto the Board in Jason Berney and Dave Donavan. Jason had been elected onto the Board at our recent AGM showing a great deal of enthusiasm and will be given the duty of Fundraising. After the resignation of Vanessa Storey and following a request for a volunteer to take on this role, Dave Donavan recently stepped forward and after meeting with the Board on Monday, was co-opted as our new Treasurer.
New Trust Chairman Ian Barnett whose first game of watching the Shots was a 0-2 defeat at home to Maidstone United in 1990 is relishing his new role “I’m genuinely proud and excited to become Chairman of the Aldershot Supporters Trust. Having become a Trust board director last summer, I have seen first-hand the hard work and dedication of the current Trust Board directors and I would like to thank Ian and John for their fantastic contributions, particularly on the back of a difficult summer last year. As a Trust we are lucky that Ian has decided to remain as a Trust board director”.
Looking ahead to the new season Ian is already making plans on taking the Trust to the next level “I look forward to working with new Vice-Chair Stuart Griffiths and I will be seeking ways and ideas to take the Trust to the next level. The skills set and experience amongst our board is excellent and I believe that together we can help improve the club and ultimately contribute to its long term success. I see the Trust’s role as the ‘voice of the fans’ and the club board’s ‘critical friend’ – which means that we must support the club and offer constructive criticism as required or asked to by our members”
New Vice-Chair Stuart Griffiths who has supported the Shots for over 34 years commented “I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the board from minute one. Having joined during the turbulent period of last summer and having seen the club on a more stable ground since. I know that I have big shoes replacing John Orme and want to go on record to show my thanks to John for his efforts and guidance over my time on the board. I look forward to the coming challenge ahead and with Ian B and the rest of the board, continuing the excellent progress already made”.
